III. Companions
I believe there are “presences” that travel with us, archetypal companions that guide and inspire us on our journeys. Sometimes these are ancient figures – Jesus, Buddha, Mohammed. It could be Aphrodite or Hermes or Athena. For me, the figure of Emily Dickinson is important, and while she is not ancient, she lives inside me like a familiar companion. These kinds of presences transcend history and become reservoirs of energy and enlightenment inside the human psyche. The divine feminine / divine masculine are fundamental to the universe, and they press themselves into the human experience by way of archetypal figures in literature, film and art. I am always searching for these figures. Always looking for new companions for my evolution as a human being. Most of all, like all people, I want to know that I am not alone. RSC
