Strings

A string between your thumb and index finger is a passport. You feel the string, fingering it backward or forward, not sure where it will lead or what it might illuminate. But you follow it.

String Theory: The universe is not composed of dotlike particles but strings. Reality is strings.

Strings give us music. The universe is strings and music.

To follow a string of consciousness is to answer our deepest psychological call to embrace adventure. Where will this lead? I don’t know. What will happen? I don’t know. Yet I will venture forth and follow the golden string, trusting that there is something new to understand.

Life becomes clear when it unravels. We begin to see the beauty of strings.

Like many things that happen in my studio, I begin with an inkling, hunch or intuition, and then something wonderful happens. I can’t explain it. Art happens. So does life.

What do these “string” paintings mean?

They signify intellectual and spiritual restlessness, that innate desire to follow and search and explore. When I paint the strings on the canvas, I lose my mind and find that something else is guiding my hand. It’s ecstasy. It’s hallucination. It’s a waking dream.
